INTERNSHIP ANNOUNCEMENT FROM THE CANADIAN CENTRE FOR THE R2P

The Canadian Centre for the Responsibility to Protect (CCR2P) is currently recruiting for the following internship positions for Summer 2022 and welcomes applications from qualified candidates. Based at the University of Toronto, the CCR2P is a non-partisan and non-profit organization and one of Canada’s leading research and advocacy organizations on R2P.  (www.ccr2p.org)

Available positions

1. R2P Live Interns  

R2P Live analysts take a leading role in researching and monitoring R2P crises around the world to generate content (e.g. dispatches, videos) to educate the public on R2P-related topics. Fluency in any of the six official UN languages will be highly valued. This position requires an acute understanding of the scope of R2P. 

2. Youth/Outreach Interns

The Youth/Outreach Interns will be engaging in our efforts to educate young minds in high schools across Canada and engaging with leading human rights NGOs around the world to further our mandate. Previous experience with civil society organizations working on human rights issues or campus groups will be an asset. There will be lots of opportunities to build skills in stakeholder management. 

3. Communications & Social Media Interns 

The Communications Intern will help manage CCR2P social media accounts and generate public awareness about key hotspots and crises around the world related to R2P. They may also be asked to assist the Centre’s media/press team on press releases and media coverage. Excellent communication skills are required and past record of success in managing social media platforms such as Twitter/Facebook/Instagram will be required for this role. 

4. Policy & Research Interns 

This summer, the CCR2P’s research division will be focusing on the following hotspots: Ukraine, Syria, Afghanistan and North Korea. Policy & Research interns will be working on policy briefs under the direction of the executive team and successful candidates will be recruited to join the editorial team for the CCR2P’s journal. This position requires exceptional research skills and analytical skills. 

INTERNSHIP ELIGIBILITY:

·  Any undergraduate or graduate student enrolled at the University of Toronto or recent alumni from any major universities;

·  A demonstrated passion and interest for the study and advocacy of R2P principle;

·  Able to commit at least 5 hours/week for the period: May 15 - August 15, 2022

·  Previous involvement in the CCR2P’s research or advocacy divisions will be an asset. 

We welcome applications from candidates with language skills and background in IR/Peace & Conflict/political science/history/public policy/law.

Our summer internship positions are pro bono positions and there will be full training provided for selected candidates.
